VNSGU thinks out of box

It is the only varsity in state which has introduced the open book exam system for its M Ed programme

Revolutionising the concept of examination, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) introduced the open book exam system for M Ed course three years back.It is the only university in the state to have brought in this innovative concept for examination.

"We are free from exam phobia.Though we are allowed to carry books and reference materials during exams,we hardly use them. The questions are not a straight lift from the text books. For example answer to--"explain the educational implications of film "Taree  Zameen  Par" can't be found in any refrence book," said an M Ed student Dharmi Patel. She adds that this system motivates students to think out of box.

Despite this system in place, passing exam is not a cakewalk for students, say many students. The questions are not typical text book questions and involve a lot of thought process on students part.

One of the education department professors said, "Generally students carry 5 to 10 books or reference material during the exams and around 40 % of the students copy from the books. But those who copy from the books score less mark compared to others who attempt questions without help," said Shasikant Shah, HoD,education department,VNSGU.
